Sandy Creek Nature Center

Sandy Creek Nature Center in Athens, Georgia, is a 225-acre natural haven featuring woodlands, wetlands, and over four miles of trails, including an ADA-accessible boardwalk. The center is a hub for outdoor exploration and environmental education. Its eco-friendly Education & Visitor Center houses live reptiles, amphibians, aquariums, interactive exhibits, and a resource library. Visitors can also enjoy a small planetarium, a historic 1815 log house, and wildlife observation areas. The trails connect to the North Oconee River Greenway and showcase diverse ecosystems teeming with local flora and fauna. ESP Playground

The ESP Playground is part of a public-private partnership between the City of Watkinsville and Extra Special People that was 4 years in the making. The playground opened on June 7, 2022 and is filled with a variety of apparatuses that people of all abilities and ages can enjoy, including a zip line and a merry-go-round that is flush with the ground. The playground is located adjacent to ESP’s Miracle League Ball Field next to City Hall.

This 113-acre park is a facility of the ACC Leisure Services Department, and includes two lighted football/soccer fields, mountaing biking trails, Greenway access, an outdoor fitness zone, a playground, one practice baseball field, a splash pad, two picnic shelters, and a walking trail.
